Here is a picture of a simple ornithopter you can make. I was able to read the first page of instructions without buying a subscription. I think I can finish a working model based on the parts list and picture. The only thing left to do is scale it up.

However, it seems that Human powered flight is soon to come to the public. This means non-rich non-jocks will be flying homebuilt and cheaply purchased machines.
